In the 2011 World Cup final played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the Sri Lankan team led by Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and decided to bat first and scored 274 runs for the loss of six wickets in 50 overs. India came under pressure at the beginning of the innings and lost two wickets in 6.1 overs. After this, Gautam Gambhir played a brilliant innings of 97 runs in 122 balls for India, while Indian captain MS Dhoni separated India from Sri Lanka by playing an unbeaten innings of 91 runs under pressure. Captain Dhoni completed this prestigious run chase by hitting a six on the second ball of the 49th over.

India batted first in the final of the 2000 edition of the ICC Knockout tournament, where India scored 264 runs in 50 overs thanks to a brilliant 117 from skipper Sourav Ganguly and a superb 69 from Sachin Tendulkar. However, despite a challenging target of 265, the Stephen Fleming-led Blackcaps won the match against New Zealand with just two balls to spare thanks to an unbeaten 102 from Chris Cairns.

In this high-profile game held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, New Zealand scored 251 runs in 50 overs. New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell scored 63 and Michael Bracewell scored 53. Chasing the target, Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant 76, while Shreyas Iyer's 48 and KL Rahul's unbeaten 34 played a key role in this run chase. India won their third ICC Champions Trophy title with six balls and four wickets to spare.

In 1998, a record target of 246 runs was achieved against West Indies in the final of ICC Champions Trophy (then Knockout Trophy). In this match played at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka, West Indies scored 245 runs in 49.3 overs. Philo Wallace scored 103 runs and Carl Hooper scored 49 runs for the Caribbean team. On the bowling side, Jacques Kallis performed brilliantly by taking five wickets in 7.3 overs.
In reply, South Africa won the match in 47 overs with six wickets remaining. Hansie Cronje remained unbeaten by scoring 61 runs, while Mike Rindel's 49 runs were the second highest score, on the basis of which South African team won its first ICC title.
