Rishabh Pant has been officially reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Headingley Test between India and England. The incident happened during England's first innings on the third day of the match.
Rishabh Pant was found guilty of breaching Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The section relates to expressing dissent at an umpire's decision during an international match.
The incident happened at the end of the 61st over of England's first innings, when the umpires checked the size of the ball with a ball gauge and decided not to change it. Pant expressed his disagreement with the umpires' decision by throwing the ball on the ground in front of the umpires.
Rishabh Pant has been given an official reprimand for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third day of the first Test against England at Headingley on Sunday. Pant was found to have breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to Showing dissent at an umpire's decision during an international match.
In addition, one demerit point has been added to Pant's disciplinary record, for which it was the first offence in a 24-month period. If the wicketkeeper-batsman reaches eight or more demerit points (equivalent to two suspension points) within a 24-month period, he can be banned from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whichever comes first. Such suspension points will be waived if the player does not repeat the offence.
Pant admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney, third umpire Sharfud-ud-Daulah Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Mike Burns levelled the charges.
It is important to note that the minimum penalty for all Level 1 breaches is an official reprimand, while the maximum penalty is 50 per cent of the player's match fee and one or two demerit points.
