The eighth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 will see Delhi Capitals (DC) take on Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday, April 4. Both teams enter the contest with contrasting fortunes from their season openers.

Delhi impressed with the ball in their first game, bundling out Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for 141 in just 18.4 overs. Axar Patel’s leadership, combined with disciplined spells from Lungi Ngidi, T Natarajan, and Kuldeep Yadav, ensured DC kept the opposition under check. On the other hand, Mumbai secured a six-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), but their bowlers leaked 220 runs. While Shardul Thakur bagged three wickets, stars like Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, and Allah Ghazanfar went wicketless.

Here’s a look at three bowlers who are likely to be wicket-taking threats in the DC vs MI clash:

1. Jasprit Bumrah (MI)

After a quiet start against KKR, Jasprit Bumrah will be eager to rediscover his lethal form. Historically, Bumrah has been highly effective against Delhi, claiming 30 wickets in 23 IPL encounters at an economy rate of 7.52. His best performance against DC came with figures of 4/14, and in his last outing, he returned 3/12.

Bumrah’s overall IPL tally is impressive, with 183 wickets in 146 games at an economy of 7.25. Adding to his credentials, he emerged as the joint-leading wicket-taker in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2026, picking up 14 wickets in eight innings at a remarkable strike rate of 6.21.

2. Shardul Thakur (MI)

Shardul Thakur was the standout bowler for Mumbai in their opener, dismantling KKR’s top order with 3/39. With 110 wickets in 106 IPL matches at an economy rate of 9.40, Thakur has proven himself as a consistent wicket-taker in the T20 format.

The pace-bowling all-rounder impressed in domestic tournaments as well, taking 13 wickets in 10 games for LSG last season and performing strongly in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 and Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. Bought by Mumbai at a base price of INR 2 crore, Thakur has been a smart acquisition and will look to continue his impressive streak.

3. Kuldeep Yadav (DC)

Delhi’s wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav brings experience and skill to the bowling attack. He has taken 10 wickets in 12 matches so far in IPL 2026 at an economy rate of 8.83, with a solid record against MI. Kuldeep has also claimed 20 wickets in 21 matches at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, making him a potent threat in DC’s home conditions.

With 104 wickets in 99 IPL matches and a total of 243 scalps across 190 T20s, including three five-wicket hauls, Kuldeep’s wicket-taking ability is unquestionable. His international experience spanning 17 Tests, 120 ODIs, and 54 T20Is adds further depth, and in T20Is alone, he has taken 95 wickets at an economy of under seven.

Conclusion

While all three bowlers are likely to shine, the match could hinge on how well Bumrah and Kuldeep exploit their respective conditions, while Shardul Thakur continues his momentum. Fans can expect an exciting contest with plenty of wickets on both sides.
