The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 delivered another nail-biter on April 14, 2025, as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clinched a dramatic five-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. This hard-fought win snapped CSK’s five-match losing streak, boosting their campaign and thrilling fans.
The match was a total thriller! LSG batted first after CSK chose to bowl, and they scored 166 runs, losing seven players. Their captain, Rishabh Pant, was the star, making 63 runs to keep their score decent. But CSK’s bowlers worked hard to stop LSG from getting too many runs. When it was CSK’s turn to bat, they needed to score 167 to win. Things got scary when they lost five players and only had 111 runs after 15 overs.
That’s when Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni stepped up. They stayed calm, hit some big shots, and made 57 runs together without getting out, helping CSK win with a few balls to spare. It was like a movie with a happy ending for CSK fans!
MS Dhoni, the captain of CSK, was the biggest hero of the night, and he got the Player of the Match award. He smashed 26 runs in just 11 balls, hitting four boundaries and one giant six that made the crowd go wild!
After the game, Dhoni said, “Winning feels so good, and it makes our team feel stronger.” He also talked about how the team’s been working together and gave a shout-out to a new player, Shaik Rasheed. Dhoni thinks Shaik is super talented because he’s been hitting the ball really well in practice against both fast and spin bowlers. Dhoni’s cool-headed leadership and fast scoring turned the game around for CSK.
Shivam Dube was another star for CSK, scoring 43 runs without getting out. His innings had three boundaries and two sixes, and he stayed at the crease until the very end to make sure CSK won. After the match, Dube said, “Losing five games in a row isn’t what CSK is about, so this win means a lot.” He explained that Dhoni’s big hits took a lot of pressure off him, so he could focus on hitting the right balls and not trying anything too risky. CSK’s bowlers did an amazing job keeping LSG’s score to 166. Ravindra Jadeja was like a wizard, grabbing two important wickets to slow LSG down. Matheesha Pathirana came in at the end and got two wickets in the last over, which was a big moment. Noor Ahmad didn’t get any wickets, but he bowled so well that LSG could barely score off him—only 13 runs in his four overs!

LSG tried really hard, but their bowlers had a tough day, especially at the end of the game. Ravi Bishnoi was awesome, taking two wickets and giving LSG hope when CSK was batting.
But Shardul Thakur had a rough time, giving away 56 runs without getting a single wicket—that’s one of the most runs LSG has ever let a bowler give up! Rishabh Pant, LSG’s captain, said after the game, “We probably needed 10 or 15 more runs to make it harder for CSK.” He also said LSG kept losing players at the wrong times, which stopped them from building a big enough score. Their bowlers fought back, but they couldn’t stop Dube and Dhoni from winning it for CSK.
Rishabh Pant was LSG’s best batter, scoring 63 runs off 49 balls. He hit some super cool shots, like a reverse scoop six that went flying and a one-handed six that looked effortless!
Pant said, “I’m starting to feel better with every game,” which is great news for LSG fans. He played well with Abdul Samad, who scored 20 runs, and together they added 53 runs to keep LSG’s score going. But CSK’s bowlers, especially Noor Ahmad, made it hard for Pant to score quickly sometimes. Even though LSG didn’t win, Pant’s batting showed he’s getting back to his best.
