Chris Woakes announces retirement from international cricket: England's star all-rounder Chris Woakes announced his retirement from international cricket on Monday. He said, "The time has come and I have decided to retire from international cricket." The 36-year-old was not included in the squad recently selected for the Ashes series.
Woakes had been struggling with a shoulder injury, which he suffered in the fifth Test against India in July. England men's team managing director Rob Key had stated that Woakes was "not in our future plans." Following this, he made the decision to retire. The prestigious Ashes series between Australia and England will begin in November this year. The first match of this five-Test series will be played on November 21st, the second on December 4th, the third on December 17th, the fourth on December 26th, and the fifth on January 4th.
Woakes played 62 Tests, 122 ODIs, and 33 T20 Internationals in his career. He was last seen in action for England in the Oval Test against India. He came out to bat at number 11 with a bandaged shoulder. However, he failed to help England win the series, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Since childhood, I have dreamed of playing for England, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have been able to fulfill that dream. Wearing the England jersey, sharing the field with my teammates, and the relationships I have built over the past 15 years are the greatest achievements of my life." He added, "Making my debut in Australia in 2011 feels like yesterday. Winning two World Cups and being part of a memorable Ashes series is something I never imagined. These memories and celebrations will remain in my heart forever."
