Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were very active at the IPL 2026 Auction. The auction was held in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16. CSK bought nine players and focused mainly on young Indian talent.
CSK went into the auction with a big purse of ₹43.40 crore. They had nine slots to fill, including four overseas players.
Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer Make History
CSK made headlines by buying two uncapped Indian players for big money. They paid ₹14.20 crore each for Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer. With this, both players became the most expensive uncapped players in IPL auction history.
Kartik Sharma is a 19-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from Rajasthan. He is known for his powerful batting. In 12 T20 matches, he has scored 334 runs at an average of 30.36 and a strike rate of 162.92. He has also hit two half-centuries.
Prashant Veer is a 20-year-old left-arm spinner from Uttar Pradesh. He can also bat left-handed. In nine T20 matches, he has taken 12 wickets with a good economy rate of 6.45. With the bat, he has scored 112 runs at a strike rate of 167.16.
Overseas Players Added for Balance
CSK signed four overseas players at the auction. They bought West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein and New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry for ₹2 crore each.
They also signed Australian batter Matthew Short for ₹1.50 crore. New Zealand all-rounder Zak Foulkes joined CSK for ₹75 lakh.
Indian Experience Strengthens Squad
CSK also added some experienced Indian players. They bought leg-spinner Rahul Chahar for ₹5.20 crore. Middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan was signed for ₹75 lakh.
With these signings, CSK built a balanced squad with young players and experienced stars.
