Chennai Super Kings (CSK) entered the IPL 2026 mini auction with a strong purse of ₹43.40 crore, the second-highest among all teams. CSK used their money boldly and became the biggest talking point of the auction by spending heavily on Indian uncapped players, a move that surprised many fans and experts.
The biggest headlines were Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma, who became the joint-most expensive uncapped players in IPL history. CSK bought both players for ₹14.20 crore each, showing huge confidence in their talent. Prashant Veer also became the most expensive uncapped player ever in the IPL. These two signings clearly show CSK’s focus on building a strong future core.
Apart from these big buys, CSK strengthened their bowling attack by signing leg-spinner Rahul Chahar for ₹5.20 crore, adding experience and wicket-taking ability in the middle overs. In overseas picks, CSK signed Akeal Hosein and Matt Henry for their base price of ₹2 crore each, adding depth to spin and pace bowling. Matthew Short was also picked to increase batting and all-round options.
In the accelerated round, CSK added Sarfaraz Khan for ₹75 lakh to support the middle order, while Aman Khan and Zak Foulkes completed the squad. Overall, CSK covered batters, all-rounders, and bowlers well during the auction.
However, one concern remains. CSK did not sign a proven overseas power-hitter for the lower order. The team struggled with finishing matches last season, and the lack of a strong finisher could again be an issue in IPL 2026.
