Vinesh Phogat disqualified, Paris Olympics 2024: Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who created history by reaching the final of women's freestyle 50 kg wrestling on Tuesday, has suffered a major setback before the final and has been disqualified for the event. Vinesh was weighed for the 50 kg final event on Wednesday morning and her weight was 100 grams more than 50 kg. In such a situation, as per the rules, she was disqualified for the final.
A big update has come in the matter of whether wrestler Vinesh Phogat can get a medal or not. In Vinesh's case, 4 lawyers of CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sports) will present her side. At the same time, a decision on Vinesh's medal can come within 24 hours. At the same time, Vinesh has decided to retire from wrestling today (August 8) with a very sad heart.

Vinesh on Wednesday appealed to CAS against her disqualification from the Olympic final and demanded that she be given a joint silver medal. The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), set up here to resolve any dispute arising during the 10-day period before the Olympic Games or the opening ceremony, will hear their appeal in the next few hours.
This means that CAS will give its decision within 24 hours. This appeal has been made at 8:15 pm on August 8 as per Indian time. The decision is awaited keeping this time in mind. Cuban wrestler Yusnelis Guzman Lopez, who lost to Vinesh in the semi-finals, replaced the Indian player in the final, where she lost to America's Sarah Ann Hildebrandt. Vinesh is now relying on CAS to become joint silver medalist with Lopez.
The international governing body of wrestling, United World Wrestling (UWW), has made it clear that there will be no change in the current rules related to weight. UWW said in a statement issued late Wednesday night after its president Nenad Lalovic met Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chief PT Usha - IOA, we suggested that if the weight requirement of the player is met on any day, the result of the wrestler of that day should not be disqualified. UWW further said - UWW will also discuss this suggestion on the appropriate platform but it cannot be applied to the previous rules.
According to the rule book of United World Wrestling, if an athlete does not weigh in the weight category he is participating in, he will be eliminated from the competition. "If an athlete does not participate or fails in the weigh-in (first or second weigh-in), he will be eliminated from the competition and placed last without a rank." This means that Vinesh will not get any medal because she has been disqualified.
