Bob Cowper passed away: A sad news has come out related to Australian cricket. Veteran cricketer Bob Cowper died in Melbourne. Cowper was 84 years old and died on 11 May (Sunday). Cricket Australia (CA) has confirmed the death of Cowper. Cowper was suffering from cancer for a long time. Cowper is survived by his wife Dale and two daughters (Olivia and Sarah).
Cricket Australia chairman Mike Baird said, 'We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Bob Cowper's death. He was a highly respected figure in Australian cricket. Bob was a brilliant batsman who will always be remembered for his triple century at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) as well as his outstanding performance in the Australia and Victoria (state) teams in the 1960s.'

Left-handed batsman Bob Cowper was known for his excellent strokeplay and restrained batting. Cowper played his most memorable innings against England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in February 1966. Then he scored 307 runs in 589 balls in a marathon innings of about 12 hours. This was the first triple century in Test cricket by a batsman on Australian soil. Also, this was the only triple century scored in Test cricket on Australian soil in the 20th century.

If seen, this was Bob Cowper's third Test century. He had scored two centuries on Caribbean soil a year earlier. Then after the triple century, he scored two more centuries. He surprisingly announced his retirement in 1968, when he was only 28 years old. Cowper played 27 Test matches for Australia between 1964 and 1968, in which he scored 2061 runs at an average of 46.84. During this period, 5 centuries and 10 half-centuries came from his bat.
