Bihar announces squad for Ranji Trophy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi Vice-Captain: The Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) has announced its squad for the first two matches of the upcoming Ranji Trophy season, making a surprising and significant decision. Bihar has appointed 14-year-old talented batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi as the vice-captain of the team. The team will be led by experienced batsman Sakibul Gani.

The announcement was made late Sunday night, with Bihar set to face Arunachal Pradesh in their first match of the Plate League season at the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium on October 15th. Having failed to register a single win last season, Bihar will have to play in the Plate League this time.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi: A Rising Star

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has had an extraordinary cricket career at a very young age. He made his Ranji Trophy debut in the 2023-24 season at the age of just 12. Subsequently, he became the youngest player (13) to receive an Indian Premier League (IPL) contract. He was selected by the Rajasthan Royals.

The explosive left-handed batsman scored a century against Gujarat Titans off just 35 balls, setting the world record for the youngest (14) to score a T20 century in men's cricket. It was also the second-fastest century in the IPL. Suryavanshi has also toured England and Australia with the Indian Under-19 team, a testament to his talent.

However, Suryavanshi is unlikely to play the entire season for Bihar, as he is in contention to be part of the Indian team for the Under-19 World Cup to be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia early next year.

Bihar Cricket has signaled its intention to lay a strong foundation for the future by appointing a young talent as vice-captain. The team is expected to perform well this season under the leadership of its captain Sakibul Gani and the enthusiasm of young vice-captain Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
