Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), popularly known as the (Orange Army), have a great history in the IPL, including consistent performances and winning the title in 2016. Even a big franchise like them has suffered several defeats in the last few years. SRH's heavy defeat against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders on the first day of the IPL 2025 season is the biggest defeat recorded by this highly-favoured franchise in the history of the tournament.
Kolkata defeated SRH by 80 runs in the 15th match of the IPL 2025 season played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Kolkata scored 200-6 in 20 overs thanks to brilliant half-centuries from Venkatesh Iyer and Angkrish Raghuvanshi. In response, Hyderabad's team collapsed for just 120 runs in 16.4 overs.
Pat Cummins-led SRH were stunned by Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk Stadium during the IPL 2024 season. Batting first, Chennai scored a mammoth total of 212 runs. Chasing 213, SRH lost three big wickets in the opening powerplay itself. Aiden Markram hit back at CSK bowlers by scoring 32 runs off 26 balls, but Tushar Deshpande took four wickets to restrict SRH to 134 runs in 18.5 overs. Sunrisers Hyderabad lost the match by 78 runs
In the 54th match of the IPL 2013 season at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings scored 223-3 in 20 overs thanks to Suresh Raina's unbeaten 99 off 52 balls. SRH could only manage 146-8. SRH lost the match by 77 runs, putting their playoff hopes in danger.
Punjab Kings defeated SRH by 72 runs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the first round of the IPL 2014 season. Glenn Maxwell smashed 95 runs off just 43 balls for PBKS, setting a target of 194 runs, SRH were bowled out for just 121 runs in 19.2 overs.
In the fourth match of the IPL 2023 season, hosts Sunrisers Hyderabad lost to Rajasthan Royals by 72 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The Royals scored 203/5 in 20 overs. In response, SRH could only score 131-8 runs.
