BCCI's New Guidelines for IPL 2026: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season is set to begin on March 28. Ahead of the tournament's commencement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has created a stir by issuing new guidelines.

In its new directive, the BCCI has clearly clarified the various aspects regarding what teams are permitted and not permitted to do, both on and off the field..

The BCCI has issued clear instructions to team managers, emphasizing that no laxity will be tolerated at any level this season. The key changes are as follows:

From now on, players from every team will be permitted to travel exclusively in the official team bus.

  • Players are not permitted to travel alongside their families.
  • If a player's family members or friends are present, they must travel in a separate vehicle.
  • Family members are permitted to watch the team's practice sessions only from the designated hospitality area.

Practice Session and Venue Guidelines (Wankhede Stadium)

According to reports, the BCCI has made specific arrangements at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.

Here, teams will be allotted two practice wickets situated on either side of the main square.

  • No Open Nets: No open net sessions of any kind will be permitted.
  • Pitch Usage: If a team's practice session concludes early, the other team will not be allowed to utilize that vacant pitch.
  • Match Day Protocol: On match days, no fitness tests or practice sessions are to be conducted on the main square.

Strict Disciplinary Rules for Match Day

The BCCI has established certain rules for match days, non-compliance with which may result in heavy fines:

  • Accreditation Cards: It is mandatory for accredited staff members to carry their ID cards while in the PMOA (Player and Match Officials Area). A first-time lapse will result in a warning, while a second instance will incur a financial penalty on the team.
  • LED Boards and Nets: Players are prohibited from sitting in front of the LED boards or hitting shots into the LED nets.
  • Support Staff Limit: As was the case last year, only 12 accredited support staff members (including the team doctor) will be permitted to sit in the dugout.

Orange and Purple Cap Rules for Broadcasters

To enhance broadcast quality, the wearing of the designated caps has been made mandatory:

  • Holders of the Orange and Purple Caps are required to wear their respective caps for the first two overs of the match to ensure they are clearly visible in the broadcast coverage.

Presentation Ceremony and Jersey Code

A specific dress code has also been prescribed for the presentation ceremony held after the conclusion of a match:

  • Players are not permitted to wear floppy hats or sleeveless jerseys during the presentation ceremony.
  • Provisions for penalties are in place for any violation of this rule.
