BCCI gives big update on Shreyas Iyer injury: Indian cricket team star Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from a hospital in Sydney. Iyer suffered a serious rib injury during the third ODI against Australia.

30-year-old Shreyas Iyer was hit in the abdomen while trying to catch Alex Carey off Harshit Rana. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and subsequently treated in the ICU. The BCCI issued a statement on Saturday providing a major update on Shreyas Iyer's fitness.

The BCCI medical team, along with experts in Sydney and India, are pleased with Shreyas Iyer's recovery. He has been discharged from the hospital today. The BCCI clarified that the Indian batsman will remain in Sydney for the time being. Iyer will return to India when the medical team approves.

It should be noted that Shreyas Iyer is not part of the Indian team in the ongoing T20 International series against Australia and was expected to play in the ODI series against South Africa next month. Media reports suggest that Shreyas Iyer's return may take a long time.

BCCI Full Statement

Shreyas Iyer sustained a serious abdominal injury while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on October 25, 2025, resulting in a laceration to his spleen and internal bleeding. The injury was assessed, and the bleeding was controlled with a minor procedure. He has been provided appropriate medical management.

Shreyas Iyer's condition is now stable and he is improving. The BCCI medical team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are satisfied with his recovery. He has been discharged from the hospital today.

The BCCI thanks Dr. Kaurush Haghighi and his team in Sydney and Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India for ensuring Shreyas received the best possible treatment for his injury. Shreyas will remain in Sydney for further consultation. He will return to India once he is fit.

Earlier, Shreyas Iyer also provided an update on his health via social media. Iyer posted, "I am in the recovery process and getting better with each passing day. I am grateful for the outpouring of prayers and faith, and it means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts."

Shreyas Iyer's incident occurred when he left the field with the physio. His condition worsened as he experienced severe pain. He was immediately taken to the hospital. Medical tests revealed that he had internal bleeding from his rib, due to which he had to be admitted to the ICU.
