The Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI is preparing to send a strong message to those cricketers who are neither part of Team India nor participating in important domestic tournaments like Ranji Trophy. The board is quite unhappy with such players and may soon issue an order against them. The name of wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan is at the forefront of this list. Ishaan had suddenly demanded a break from the team management during the South Africa tour, after which he has been continuously moving away from cricket. The head coach of Team India has said that if Kishan wants to return to the team, he will have to play some cricket.
If some reports are to be believed, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has sent a strong message to some senior Indian players. The board has said that players have to give priority to domestic tournaments like Ranji Trophy before focusing on the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The board is quite unhappy with such players and may soon issue an order against them. The name of wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan is at the forefront of this list. Ishaan had suddenly demanded a break from the team management during the South Africa tour, after which he has been continuously moving away from cricket.
A BCCI source told Times of India, “In the next few days, all players will be informed by the BCCI to play for their state team in the Ranji Trophy, unless they are on national duty. Only those players who are unfit and rehabbing at the NCA will be exempted. The board is not very happy with some of the players who have been preparing for the IPL since January.”
Ishaan has not played a single Ranji Trophy match yet. A few days ago there was news that Ishan Kishan has started practicing with the Pandya Brothers. In such a situation, speculations were being made that Ishan Kishan is preparing not for Ranji Trophy but for IPL. In such a situation, BCCI is very angry with the players coming into IPL mode during Ranji Trophy.
The 17th edition of IPL (Indian Premier League) is going to start soon and it is scheduled to start in March 2024. However, the BCCI expressed displeasure over the players being in IPL mode from January, when they could have focused their attention on the Indian team and Ranji Trophy. And if the players do not play Ranji Trophy then BCCI can ban the players.
