The women's ODI and T20I teams for the forthcoming tour of England, which begins on June 28, have been revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). During the three ODIs and five T20Is that comprise the visit, Harmanpreet Kaur will command the squad in both formats, with Smriti Mandhana serving as vice-captain.
One of the major highlights of the squad announcement is the return of explosive opener Shafali Verma to the T20I team after a seven-month absence. The 20-year-old batter was dropped from the squad in November 2024 following a string of inconsistent performances but has earned her recall on the back of strong domestic and Women’s Premier League (WPL) performances.
Shafali Verma’s Stellar Domestic and WPL Form
Shafali’s recall comes after dominating domestic cricket, where she led Haryana in the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy and the Challenger Trophy. She was the top scorer in both tournaments:
- One Day Trophy: 527 runs at a strike rate of 152.31 and an average of 75.29
- Challenger Trophy: 414 runs at a strike rate of 145.26 and an average of 82.80
With 304 runs with a strike rate of 152.76, she finished as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the WPL 2025 and was instrumental in leading the Delhi Capitals to the championship game.
Richa Rawal and Uma Chetry had opened for Smriti Mandhana in ODIs and T20Is, respectively, while she was away. Richa Rawal retains her ODI spot, but Shafali has replaced Chetry in the T20I team.
Shafali Excluded from ODI Squad; Sneh Rana Returns
Despite her T20I recall, Shafali has not been included in the ODI squad, having last played a 50-over match in October 2024. Meanwhile, all-rounder Sneh Rana has made a comeback to both squads following an impressive WPL season.
The wicketkeeping duties will be shared between Richa Ghosh and Yastika Bhatia, while Deepti Sharma and Harleen Deol add depth to the batting and bowling departments. Jemimah Rodrigues, a versatile middle-order batter, has also been included in both squads.
