The Indian women’s cricket team created history by winning their first-ever ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. In the final played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, India defeated South Africa by 52 runs to lift the coveted trophy. Following this monumental triumph, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a cash reward of ₹51 crore for the players and support staff.
BCCI’s Historic Announcement
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia announced the reward soon after India’s memorable victory. He stated that the amount will be distributed among the players, coaches, selectors, and support staff.
“Last month, ICC Chairman Jay Shah announced a 300% increase in the women’s prize money. Earlier, it was USD 3.88 million, which has now been raised to USD 14 million. In addition, BCCI has decided to award the entire Indian contingent — players, coaches, selectors, and support staff — a total of ₹51 crore,” Saikia said.
This reward is separate from the ICC prize money, highlighting the BCCI’s appreciation for the team’s remarkable effort and dedication.

ICC’s Record Prize Money
Before the World Cup began, the ICC had already announced a record prize pool for the tournament. India received a whopping USD 4.48 million (₹37.3 crore) for winning the title - a 239% increase from 2022, when Australia had earned around ₹11 crore for their victory.
India’s Historic Triumph
Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur, Team India showcased exceptional skill and composure throughout the tournament. In the final, they maintained their focus and delivered an all-round performance to defeat South Africa and claim their maiden World Cup title. The victory marks a proud moment not only for Indian cricket but for the entire nation.
Shafali Verma - The Star of the Final
Young opener Shafali Verma emerged as the star performer in the final. She played a brilliant knock of 87 runs and also took two crucial wickets - Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp - turning the game in India’s favor. Brought into the team as a late replacement for Prateek Rawal, Shafali grabbed the opportunity with both hands and became India’s biggest match-winner of the night.
Conclusion
India’s World Cup victory has not only elevated women’s cricket to new heights but also inspired future generations of players. The cash rewards announced by both BCCI and ICC mark a significant step toward empowering and recognizing women’s cricket on a global scale.
