The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering giving back the captaincy of the national team to Babar Azam, who resigned from the post a few months ago.
The PCB is reportedly not satisfied with the ability of Shan Masood and Shaheen Afridi and feels that Babar is the best option for the important role at this time.
According to the information, Cricket Pakistan informed on March 12 that Shaheen Shah Afridi's T20 captaincy is in danger.
Initially, Mohammad Rizwan was the frontrunner to replace Shaheen, with Babar Azam also in the race. However, recent developments have made Babar the primary candidate for captaincy once again. PCB officials are close to finalizing their decision to hand him the role.
Babar Azam was relieved of the white-ball captaincy after the 2023 World Cup, while Shaheen Afridi took over the T20I reins. Subsequently, after being removed from the T20I captaincy, Babar also resigned from the red ball captaincy, leading to Shan Masood being appointed as the Test captain. Pakistan had a poor performance, especially as they lost all three Tests in Australia and suffered a 1–4 defeat in the T20I series in New Zealand.
There has since been a change in the PCB leadership, with Mohsin Naqvi replacing Zaka Ashraf as chairman. Naqvi hinted at a possible change in captaincy during his recent press conference in Lahore.
According to PTI report, the PCB think tank has come to the conclusion that with no other effective options available, Babar is the best choice to lead the team again.
