ODI World Cup 2023 - Ireland's cricket team failed to put up a strong show in the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 in Zimbabwe, as a result of which they could not qualify for the mega event starting October 5 in India.
Ireland played their last match in the World Cup Qualifier 2023 against Nepal, ending their disappointing campaign with a two-wicket win. Meanwhile, skipper Andrew Balbirnie has resigned from his position as white-ball captain after Ireland failed to qualify for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Andrew Balbirnie has resigned from his position as limited overs captain. Andrew Balbirnie will continue to captain the Test team, and will also be available for selection in the T20I and ODI squads. Balbirnie's decision was confirmed by Cricket Ireland on 4 July. Andrew Balbirnie said "I feel it is the right time for me to step down as captain, but more importantly for the team. I will continue to do my best for the Ireland team and work hard to make my contribution. Hopefully I can contribute to the team's success for the next many years."
Andrew Balbirnie said in Cricket Ireland's press release: "After much thought, I have decided to step down from my position as ODI and T20I captain. Captaining Ireland has been one of my greatest honours, and I am extremely grateful for the support I have received on and off the field from my fellow players, coaches, Cricket Ireland and fans of the Ireland cricket team.

Paul Stirling will take over the captaincy of Team Ireland, Paul Stirling will take charge of Ireland's limited-overs side after Andrew Balbirnie stepped down as captain, but will only captain the team until the ODI series against England in September. Paul Stirling has the experience of captaining Ireland in four ODIs and nine T20Is.
