Amit Mishra announced his retirement: Indian cricket team's veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra on Thursday announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The 42-year-old Haryana bowler made his international debut in 2003 and represented India till 2017. Amit Mishra confirmed his retirement while talking to news agency PTI over the phone.
Mishra told IANS, "These 25 years of my life in cricket have been memorable. I am deeply grateful to the BCCI, administration, Haryana Cricket Association, support staff, my colleagues and my family members who stood by me during this time."
He said, "I want to thank the fans whose love and support made this journey memorable whenever and wherever I played. Cricket has given me countless memories and invaluable learnings. Every moment spent on the field has become a memory that I will cherish for a lifetime."
Amit Mishra made his Test debut against Australia in 2008. He performed brilliantly in his very first match, taking five wickets in the first innings and two wickets in the second innings, drawing everyone's attention. Amit played his first international match against South Africa in April 2003. He played his last ODI against New Zealand in October 2016. Mishra made his T20 debut against Zimbabwe in 2010, and his last T20 was played against England in February 2017. This also proved to be his last international match. Mishra played his last Test against England in 2016.
Talking about Mishra's best bowling spell in ODIs, it is 6/48. He did this feat against Zimbabwe in 2013. Talking about the match, after losing the toss, Zimbabwe team was all out for 163 runs in 39.5 overs. Mishra took 6 wickets for 48 runs in 8.5 overs at an economy of 5.43.
Mishra took 5 wickets 1 time in Tests. Talking about his best performance, it was 5/71 in an innings and 7/72 in a Test. He made his Test debut against Australia in Mohali in 2008. He played the last Test of his career in 2016.

Amit Mishra is the bowler who has taken the most hat-tricks in IPL. He has done this feat 3 times in the league. He did this feat for different franchises (2008, 2011 and 2013). In 2008, while playing for Delhi, he took 3 wickets in a row against Deccan Chargers.
After this, in 2011, this bowler of Kings 11 Punjab again did this feat against Deccan Chargers. In 2013, Mishra was playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He took 3 wickets in 3 balls against Pune Warriors.
Mishra played 22 Tests, 36 ODIs and 10 T20 Internationals for India. In Tests, he was known as a traditional leg-break bowler. He pulled the team out of difficult situations many times in his career. Amit Mishra took 76 wickets in 22 Tests. His best bowling performance was five wickets for 71 runs. He took 64 wickets in 36 ODIs. His best performance was six wickets for 48 runs. During this, his economy rate was 4.73. In T20 Internationals, he took 16 wickets in 10 matches. His best performance was three wickets for 24 runs.
Although he has not played any match for India since 2017, he remained active till IPL 2024. Mishra troubled the batsmen a lot with his leg-spin in the Indian Premier League and changed the course of the match many times. In IPL, Mishra played 162 matches and took 174 wickets. He is one of the most successful bowlers in IPL. Mishra played his last IPL match in 2024 against Rajasthan Royals. Incidentally, his IPL debut was also against the same team in 2008.
