The Super Over was introduced in international cricket in 2008 as a solution to tied matches. It replaced the bowl-out method previously used in tied matches. In a Super Over, if a match is tied, each team gets one over to bat, and the team scoring the most runs wins. According to the rules of the Super Over, the team batting last in the match will be allowed to bat first. Furthermore, only one bowler will be allowed to bowl the entire over, and the batting team will be allowed to take two wickets. Thus, only three batsmen will be allowed to take the field.

When a match was tied, the winning team was declared the winner based on the number of fours hit in the Super Over. However, due to criticism, this rule was replaced with a double Super Over. Therefore, if the match is tied in the Super Over as well, a second Super Over will be played. To date, only four T20 matches have featured more than one Super Over, and below is a list of all those matches.
