Punjab batsman Abhishek Sharma gave his best performance and scored the joint fastest T20 century for India. Playing against Meghalaya, Abhishek scored a century off 28 balls and equaled Gujarat's Urvil Patel, who scored a century off 28 balls against Tripura in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT).
Abhishek and Urvil are second only to Estonia's Sahil Chauhan, who scored a 27-ball hundred against Cyprus earlier this year. Abhishek has established his reputation as a fine striker of the cricket ball. He performed brilliantly for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2024, which also paved the way for his India debut. Meanwhile, this was Abhishek Sharma's fourth century in SMAT, the most by any player in history.

Abhishek, Gujarat's wicketkeeper batsman Urvil Patel played a strong innings against Tripura in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and broke Rishabh Pant's record. The record of the fastest Indian batsman to score a century in T20 was in the name of Pant, who scored a century in 32 balls against Himachal Pradesh in the same tournament in 2018. Urvil hit 12 sixes and seven fours in his innings.
