Recently, former Australian captain Michael Clarke has revealed that he has undergone his sixth surgery due to skin cancer. Clarke said that skin cancer is a real disease, and he also made a special appeal to people to keep getting regular checkups. In fact, many cricketers before him have also suffered from cancer.

Michael Clarke was first diagnosed with cancer in 2006. He battled it throughout his cricket career. In 2019, he had three non-melanoma lesions removed, one of which was on his forehead. Let us tell you that melanoma cancer occurs in skin cells called melanocytes, which are responsible for producing a pigment called melanin. Australia won the 2015 ODI World Cup under Clarke's captaincy.

Yuvraj Singh first found out about his cancer in 2011. After the 2011 World Cup, tests revealed that Yuvraj had cancer. However, the symptoms had already started showing. Despite being ill, he took 15 wickets and scored 362 runs in the World Cup. A tumor was found in his lungs. He underwent treatment in the US and after several months, he returned to international cricket in 2012.

Michael Clarke's compatriot Richie Benaud was the captain of the Australian team and later also started commentating. He suffered from cancer in the last years of his life, he also had skin cancer of the forehead and scalp. Benaud died on 10 April 2015, just a few months after the cancer was revealed.

Geoffrey Boycott was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2003. He is known for his excellent commentary, but at that time he had to give up commentary due to cancer. He underwent 35 sessions of radiotherapy. The good thing was that he recovered within a year and returned to the commentary profession.

In 2010, Andy Flower was the head coach of the England team when he was diagnosed with skin cancer on his right cheek. Flower made a full recovery after surgery, after which he has constantly worked to make people aware of skin cancer.
