Bhubaneswar, Odisha – In a significant development, Odisha’s Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj announced today that the mid-semester exams of KIIT University will be postponed. This decision follows the ongoing investigation into the unfortunate demise of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal, which has prompted widespread discussions and concerns among students and faculty alike.

During a discussion in the State Assembly regarding an adjournment motion on the incident, Minister Suraj emphasized that the decision to postpone the exams was taken in the interest of the affected students. He assured that remedial classes would be conducted to support students facing academic disruptions due to the recent tragic event.

'The state government is committed to ensuring that students at KIIT University can resume their studies without distress. The postponed exams will be rescheduled at an appropriate time, allowing students adequate preparation,' stated the Minister.

High-Level Committee Formed for Investigation

A high-level committee has been constituted to ensure a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident. According to Minister Suraj, the committee has summoned eight individuals, from university officials and professors to employees and the institution’s founder, for questioning. The investigation aims to uncover all aspects of the incident and ensure accountability.

'Our priority is to maintain transparency and provide justice. Every angle of this matter will be thoroughly examined,' the Minister assured while addressing media personnel.

Acknowledging concerns regarding student safety and well-being, the Minister reiterated that the Odisha government has been actively engaging with Nepali students studying at KIIT. Some students who had temporarily left the university have now returned following discussions with the authorities. The government has pledged continued support to ensure a smooth transition back to normalcy for the student community.

Impact on KIIT University’s Academic Schedule

With the postponement of mid-semester exams, KIIT University will now focus on conducting remedial sessions to bridge any academic gaps. This step aims to assist students in coping with the disruption and ensuring they are well-prepared when the rescheduled exams take place.

The incident has sparked conversations around student safety, mental health, and institutional accountability. As the investigation progresses, stakeholders, including students, parents, and faculty, eagerly await the committee’s findings and subsequent actions.

The postponement of KIIT University’s mid-semester exams underscores the importance of prioritizing student welfare amid challenging circumstances. As Odisha’s government takes proactive steps to address concerns and facilitate a fair investigation, the academic community remains hopeful for a resolution that upholds justice and supports the well-being of all students.
