The BGMI community received shocking news recently. According to reports, the eagerly anticipated BGMI Franchise League, which was supposed to launch in September 2025, has been cancelled. This league was going to be one of the biggest events in BGMI history, and fans were super excited for it. But sadly, it may not happen this year.
What Was the BGMI Franchise League?
In June 2025, Krafton India announced a new tournament – the BGMI Franchise League, also known as the BGMI Champions League. The format was going to be similar to the IPL, where city-based teams would compete against each other. Krafton planned to have between 16 to 24 teams, each owned by a franchise through a bidding system.
This new format was supposed to take BGMI esports to the next level, bringing in more structure, sponsors, and excitement.
So Why Was It Cancelled?
According to reports from Letsgrowesports, the league was cancelled because some teams did not get any franchise buyers. Even though big names and investors showed interest, around 3 or 4 teams had no buyers. This left several team slots empty, and because of that, Krafton had no choice but to cancel the event for now.
Will the League Happen in the Future?
Yes, there’s still hope! Reports say that the BGMI Champions League might now be held in 2026. Krafton has not made any official announcement yet, but fans are hoping for an update soon.
What’s Next for BGMI Esports?
Even though the franchise league won’t happen this year, 2025 has still been an exciting year for BGMI fans. Krafton already hosted:
- BGIS 2025 in Kolkata
- BMPS 2025 in Delhi
And now, BGMS 2025 is all set to start in August. To make up for the cancelled league, Krafton might organize another official tournament in the September-October window. So there’s still a lot to look forward to!
Final Thoughts
The cancellation of the BGMI Franchise League is sad news for the community. It was supposed to be a huge step forward for Indian esports. But hopefully, things will be better next year, with more teams, better planning, and full support from investors.
