What is Google Gemini and how to use it, how can you use ChatGPT alternative?: The artificial intelligence race is in full swing, and Google plans to take the fight back to Microsoft and its partner, OpenAI. The search giant has rebranded its Bard chatbot and Duet AI to Google Gemini.
The Bard chatbot was running on its old PaLM (Pathways Language Model) until December last year, when Google switched it to running on Gemini Pro. Then, on Thursday, nearly a year after it first launched in the wake of OpenAI's ChatGPIT, Google retired its Bard chatbot and rebranded it as Gemini. Along with this, the company has also launched Gemini Ultra, a paid premium version of the chatbot that uses Google's largest and most advanced large language model.
You can think of Gemini as an alternative to Google's ChatGPT – it should be able to handle most of the tasks you'd give OpenAI's revolutionary chatbot.
Google says Gemini is multimodal. This should mean that the chatbot can take input in different formats – text, images, video, voice – and give output in any of those formats. You can see how it works in the video below.
Gemini's larger language model is already available to users of the Search Generator Experience (SGE), which includes Gemini's ability to read and summarize large amounts of content in the Google search experience. But SGE is only available to a small group of users who have signed up for the waitlist on Search Labs, Google's platform for search-related experiences.
But on Thursday, coinciding with Bard's rebranding, the company announced it would launch dedicated Gemini apps on Android and iOS. Gemini will also be made available for Android users with Google Assistant.
There is a paid tier of Gemini Advanced chatbot that will give you access to Ultra 1.0, which Google claims is its largest and most capable AI model. The company claims that it was the most preferred chatbot compared to leading alternatives in a blind evaluation with third-party raters. Google did not provide any additional details about how the tests were conducted, including whether ChatGPT was one of the options.
It will be available as part of the Google One AI premium plan for $19.99 per month. In addition to access to Gemini Advanced, the plan will also give you 2TB of storage and the ability to use Gemini in Docs, Slides, Sheets, and other Google products.
Google's DeepMind claimed in a technical report that Gemini outperforms ChatGPT in various tests. The paper claims it scored 90.04 percent on the MMLU (Massive Multitask Language Understanding) benchmark test, while human expert performance was 89.8 percent and ChatGPT had a high of 86.4 percent. Let's ask Mithun himself.
I can't objectively say I'm better than ChatGPT, as it depends on your specific needs and preferences. ChatGPT and I are both large language models with different strengths and weaknesses. Ultimately, The better choice depends on what you need the model to do. If you need a tool for creative writing or casual conversation, ChatGPT may be a better choice. If you need a factual and accurate assistant, I might be a better fit, Gemini said when asked if it was better.
