US Spy Chief Supports Modi After Kashmir Terror Attack

In the aftermath of one of the most horrific terrorist attacks in recent years, where 26 civilians were brutally killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region, India has received a powerful wave of global solidarity and support both diplomatically and strategically.

The coordinated assault, confirmed to have been orchestrated by Pakistan-based terror group The Resistance Front, a proxy for the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, has sparked outrage across continents. The attack comes at a crucial time, just days after successful local elections in Jammu and Kashmir, a symbolic milestone toward peace and democratic progress.

In a striking show of transcontinental support, Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence of the United States, directly communicated with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pledging unwavering backing from Washington.

'We are with you and support you as you hunt down those responsible for this heinous attack,' Gabbard wrote, while also honouring the lives lost in what she described as a horrific Islamist terror attack targeting innocent Hindus.'

This marks a rare but critical diplomatic gesture by the US intelligence community, reaffirming the strategic Indo-US alliance in counterterrorism cooperation.

Investigations have revealed deep-rooted cross-border links, with terrorists allegedly crossing into India from areas under Pakistan’s illegal occupation. Evidence has also emerged of religiously motivated selection during the killings, a grim tactic often deployed to instil fear and polarise communities.

India, during a high-level security review chaired by PM Modi, stated unequivocally that it sees this attack as an act of war, not just terror.

'This massacre came just as the region was turning a page, choosing ballots over bullets,' said Home Minister Amit Shah. 'Pakistan’s fear of peace in Kashmir is the root cause of this attack.'

Pakistan, fearing military retaliation, has already begun tightening airspace security and ramping up air reconnaissance near the Line of Control. Strategic analysts believe Islamabad is bracing for a calibrated but firm Indian response.

PM Modi, who was in Saudi Arabia at the time of the attack for a bilateral meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, cut his visit short and returned to New Delhi for emergency deliberations.

'We will hunt them down, and those who shelter them, to the ends of the earth. Their punishment will be beyond imagination,' Modi declared during a nationally televised address.

This marks one of the strongest statements yet in India’s recent history, signalling a possible paradigm shift in counterterror response.

The attack drew sharp condemnation and resounding support from around the globe. From President Joe Biden and President Vladimir Putin, to France’s Emmanuel Macron, Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu, and Italy’s Giorgia Meloni, global leaders expressed unity with India in its pursuit of justice.

President Biden emphasised, 'The United States stands firmly with India. The perpetrators must face consequences.'

Russian President Putin echoed the sentiment: 'We support India in its decisive action against terrorism and affirm our continued collaboration in intelligence and security.'

Significantly, Islamic nations such as Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran, and Jordan joined in condemning the attack. This rare alignment across religious and geopolitical lines has bolstered India’s diplomatic stance and isolated Pakistan further on the global stage.

India’s options now span across military, diplomatic, and economic fronts. With the world’s backing, New Delhi is expected to pressure international bodies to designate additional Pakistan-backed groups as terrorist organisations, while simultaneously preparing for potential covert and overt retaliatory strikes.

Experts suggest India may also push for sanctions, curb trade ties, and escalate efforts at the United Nations for broader international accountability.

As India grieves and prepares for action, the Pahalgam attack may well serve as a defining moment, not just in Indo-Pak relations, but in how the world responds to religiously driven terrorism. With unprecedented global alignment, India is no longer alone in this fight.
