Uber has taken a major step forward in strengthening India’s digital mobility ecosystem by launching two new services in Bengaluru: Uber Direct, a B2B goods delivery network, and Namma Metro ticket booking integration within the Uber app. With these developments powered by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), the company aims to unify travel, logistics, and commerce into one smooth, tech-driven experience for millions of users.
These launches underline Uber’s larger vision of simplifying everyday movement and business operations through India’s rapidly evolving public digital infrastructure.
Uber Direct is designed as a plug-and-play logistics layer for enterprises, not a consumer-facing feature like Uber Courier. It works behind the scenes, enabling fast and reliable deliveries for brands without requiring any direct interaction between the end customer and Uber.
Here’s how it functions:
- Customers place an order on a brand’s website or mobile app
- Uber’s fleet quietly fulfils the delivery in the background
- The end user never needs to open Uber or track the driver manually
Currently active in Bengaluru, the service is already supporting deliveries of groceries, essentials, gifts, and soon, food orders as well. Big brands like KFC, Burger King, Three Bolt, and several local restaurants are expected to leverage the service, creating a unified and scalable delivery backbone.
Uber highlighted that this new network will also open fresh earning opportunities for drivers, allowing them to participate in both ride-hailing and delivery pipelines.
Bengaluru Metro Tickets Now On The Uber App
Uber’s ONDC-powered metro ticketing, already available in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai, has officially arrived in Bengaluru. Commuters can now:
- Purchase QR-based Namma Metro tickets directly from the Uber app
- Pay exclusively through UPI
- Access real-time metro timings and station-level information
This integration aims to make public transport more accessible and reduce friction between first-mile, last-mile, and in-transit mobility, something Bengaluru’s daily commuters have long needed.
BMRCL officials have welcomed the move, noting that digital ticketing through popular apps can significantly improve travel convenience and reduce congestion at metro stations.
Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia, emphasised that Bengaluru’s technology-first environment makes it the perfect testbed for deepening ONDC integrations.
According to Singh, Uber’s broader ambition remains clear: go anywhere and get anything, with more than 1.5 million earners actively engaged on the platform. He noted that Uber is taking a steady, quality-focused approach instead of chasing aggressive growth metrics.
He also highlighted how Uber Direct can help drivers boost their monthly earnings while strengthening their overall presence on the network.
Speaking about plans like Uber Shuttle, Singh mentioned that discussions are underway with government stakeholders and that Bengaluru will eventually see the service when the timing aligns with regulatory and user expectations.
On the ONDC side, Vibhor Jain, acting CEO and COO, stated that Uber Direct represents the next phase of interoperable, standardised commerce, allowing businesses to tap into a flexible logistics engine.
Bengaluru, already known as India’s technology capital, stands to benefit immensely from this connected ecosystem as metro ticketing, ride-hailing, and enterprise logistics come together inside a single app, giving users faster city travel, reduced dependency on physical queues, streamlined delivery experiences, better earning avenues for drivers, and enhanced last-mile and first-mile mobility. For a city battling traffic congestion and rising logistics demands, these updates are timely and transformative.
Uber has confirmed that both Uber Direct and the metro ticketing integration will expand to several more Indian cities in 2026. As India continues to grow into a global digital hub, Uber wants to position itself as a unified platform that solves mobility, commerce, and logistics challenges at scale.
The company is betting heavily on ONDC’s interoperability to create sustainable, future-ready solutions, making India one of its most significant innovation markets worldwide.
