Officials announced on Sunday that seven corpses had been extricated from the debris, one day after a six-story building in Surat fell due to nonstop rain. The 30-unit house block in Sachin Pali village was constructed without permission and was mainly empty. The rent for the five inhabited apartments was ₹ 1,200 per month.

'The entire night, the hunt was underway. News agency ANI was informed by Chief Fire Officer Basant Pareek that seven deceased corpses had been found. He added that the rescue effort was over when the seventh body was removed around six in the morning.

The building collapsed at roughly 2:30 pm on Saturday, injuring 15 people and rescuing a lady from under the rubble, according to officials.

Large concrete slabs at the scene created a pile of rubble that rescuers had to work through the night to clear. Workers from the NDRF and SDRF break through the concrete to get to the stranded occupants.

Five families were residing in the 2017-built building when it fell. Many occupants, who worked night shifts, slept inside when the fall happened, although many were at work, according to the authorities.

The abrupt fall on Saturday, according to the locals, caused havoc as they scrambled to rescue as many people as they could from under the rubble. The majority of the apartments were empty and in poor condition despite the building being just eight years old, according to authorities.

There were around five apartments occupied, most of them by people who worked in the nearby factories. We heard the imprisoned people's cries as soon as the rescue operation got underway. We pulled a woman out of the wreckage and took her to the hospital 'Anupam Gehlot, the Commissioner of Police in Surat, stated.

The senior police official had earlier stated that rescue efforts were underway to extricate the six or seven persons who were thought to be trapped beneath the debris. 'Their voices are audible from within the debris. They'll be saved very soon,' he declared.
