James Gunn’s Superman is soaring long before it hits the big screen. The film’s early access screenings, available exclusively to Amazon Prime members via Fandango, have already made history, becoming Fandango’s top first-day ticket seller of 2025. The buzz? Real. The heat? Unmistakable.

The anticipation for Superman has reached stratospheric levels. On its first day alone, early access screenings sold more tickets than any other 2025 release to date, even outperforming Fantastic Four: First Steps, Marvel’s tentpole summer release. This isn’t just a sign of strong demand—it’s a clear signal that moviegoers are invested in DC’s new cinematic direction under James Gunn.

What makes this achievement more notable is that these aren't complimentary passes or promotional giveaways. Amazon Prime members paid for these tickets, underscoring the film’s genuine pull among fans.

The exclusive screenings will take place on July 8 at 7 PM local time, giving fans a three-day head start before Superman officially lands in theaters and IMAX on July 11. These screenings are limited to select theaters, heightening the urgency and exclusivity for fans eager to be first.

According to Fandango’s 2025 Moviegoing Trends & Insight Study, Superman ranks as one of the most anticipated summer releases. In a separate poll of over 9,000 ticket buyers, Nicholas Hoult’s portrayal of Lex Luthor has emerged as one of the most awaited performances of the year. It’s clear the casting choices and narrative promise are connecting with audiences.

Although no official projections have been released by tracking firms like The Quorum, industry insiders are already speculating a $100M+ opening weekend for Superman. While it may not yet have tracking data to back it up, the buzz and early sales suggest a robust debut is almost inevitable.

Past Superman titles offer some perspective:

  • Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016): $166M opening
  • Man of Steel (2013): $116.6M opening
  • Justice League (2017): $93.8M opening

If Superman hits triple digits, it could easily become one of the franchise's most successful launches.

The biggest opening of the year still belongs to A Minecraft Movie with $162.7M, a Warner Bros. and Legendary collaboration. Among superhero films, Captain America: Brave New World leads with an $88.8M three-day weekend. Still, the benchmark for comic book movies remains Deadpool and Wolverine, which set an R-rated record with a $211.4M opening in 2024.

James Gunn’s vision for Superman is off to a record-breaking start, with early access ticket sales proving that audiences are ready to embrace a new chapter for the Man of Steel. As anticipation builds toward the July 11 wide release, all signs point to a blockbuster success in the making—and potentially a pivotal moment for the DC Universe.
