When is Ram Navami in 2026?: Ram Navami is a major Hindu festival celebrated every year on the Navami (ninth) Tithi (lunar day) of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) during the month of Chaitra. According to the Panchang (Hindu calendar), this year, this specific Tithi will commence on March 26 at 11:48 AM and continue until 10:06 AM on March 27. Since Lord Rama was born during the Madhyahna period (midday, approximately 12:00 PM), many people consider it more appropriate to celebrate Ram Navami on March 26. Conversely, those who prioritize the Udaya Tithi (the lunar day prevailing at sunrise) advocate for celebrating this festival on March 27, 2026.
When is Ram Navami in 2026?
In Ayodhya, the festival of Ram Navami is being celebrated on March 27, 2026. Consequently, Ram Navami will now be observed on this same day across almost all regions of the country. Furthermore, the auspicious Muhurat (time) for Ram Navami Puja (worship) will be from 11:13 AM to 1:41 PM on March 27.
Why is Ram Navami Celebrated?
The sacred festival of Ram Navami is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Rama, the seventh avatar (incarnation) of Lord Vishnu. According to mythological legends, during the Treta Yuga, Lord Vishnu took his seventh incarnation as the son of King Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya of Ayodhya. Lord Rama was born to eradicate Adharma (injustice) and establish Dharma (righteousness). It is believed that Lord Rama was born on the Navami Tithi of the Shukla Paksha during the month of Chaitra; For this very reason, Lord Rama's birth anniversary—known as Ram Navami—is celebrated every year on this specific date.
