What Makes This Drive Important?
Even after India was declared polio-free in 2014, health experts stress the importance of continued vigilance. The campaign isn’t just another health event; it’s a proactive step to ensure that no child is left unprotected. Hyderabad, one of the six key districts in Telangana selected for this special drive, is playing a pivotal role in maintaining the country’s health shield against polio.
Massive On-Ground Setup Across the City
According to Hyderabad District Collector Hari Chandana Dasari, around 2,843 polio booths have been set up across the district. These centres are operating daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., allowing parents to bring their children at their convenience. The Collector emphasised that no child between 0 to 5 years should miss their dose of oral polio vaccine during this crucial period.
To make sure every child gets immunised, over 11,200 trained health personnel are conducting door-to-door visits from October 13 to 15. The administration has also identified 164 high-risk areas that will receive special focus during the campaign. This includes densely populated urban pockets, migrant settlements, and areas with historically low immunisation turnout.
The sheer scale of the campaign is impressive. With nearly 9.36 lakh households to be covered, the Hyderabad health department is mobilising a citywide movement that combines medical planning, public cooperation, and community spirit. Every booth is manned by healthcare professionals and volunteers dedicated to ensuring safe and efficient vaccination.
How You Can Help?
Parents and guardians are being urged to actively participate by taking their children to the nearest polio booth on the first day of the campaign. Awareness drives, posters, and social media campaigns have already been rolled out across the city to remind families that 'two drops of life' can make a lifetime of difference.
Officials have assured that all polio booths are following proper sanitation and hygiene protocols. Monitoring teams have been deployed to ensure smooth coordination, while real-time reporting systems are tracking daily progress across zones. Mobile health vans are also operating in select areas to reach families that may otherwise be left out.
This initiative marks another milestone in Hyderabad’s ongoing mission to remain a polio-free district. With thousands of health workers, volunteers, and local communities coming together, the pulse polio drive is not just about vaccination; it’s about reaffirming a promise of a healthier future for every child.
From October 12 to 15, Hyderabad is witnessing one of the largest coordinated health drives in the state. Every parent, health worker, and volunteer plays a role in ensuring that polio never makes a comeback. The message is clear: a few minutes at the booth can protect your child for a lifetime.
