There has been an explosion in Balochistan, Pakistan. 24 people were killed and 40 injured in a suicide bomb blast near Quetta railway station. This incident is the latest incident of unrest in Balochistan. This explosion took place in the booking office of the railway station just before the train reached the platform.
The death toll has now risen to 24. The blast occurred at the railway station's booking office just before the train arrived at the platform, Pakistan news channel Geo News reported. As the station was crowded as usual, casualties are expected to be high. Police and rescue workers have reached the blast site. Emergency has been imposed at Quetta's Civil Hospital and additional doctors and support staff have been called in.
According to railway officials, the Jaffar Express was scheduled to leave for Peshawar at 9 am. Officials said the train had not reached the platform when the blast occurred. Officials told Geo News that the death toll in the blast could rise as many of the injured are in critical condition.
Talking to media, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operation Quetta Muhammad Baloch said that the blast appears to be a suicide blast. However, he said further investigation is underway. Giving details about the death toll, SSP Operation Baloch said that the death toll in the blast is 24 and 40 others have been injured.
The police official said that the explosion took place inside the railway station when the Peshawar-bound express was about to leave for its destination. The roof of the platform was also damaged by the explosion, the sound of which was heard far and wide in different areas of the city.
The bomb disposal team inspected the spot, SSP Operations said that they will soon give information about the nature of the explosion.
