Operation Keller: Three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian on Tuesday morning.
Operation Keller: Indian Army kills 3 terrorists during encounter in Jammu and Kashmir Shopian
The encounter started in neighbouring Kulgam district before the militants moved towards Shopian.
Based on a specific input about the presence of militants in the Shukru Keller area of the south Kashmir district, security forces launched a cordon and search operation. He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire on the security forces, following which the security forces retaliated.
The encounter comes amid a fragile ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan after days of shelling, drone attacks by Pakistan and retaliation by the Indian armed forces. Pakistan started the shelling after India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, under which nine terror infrastructure was destroyed in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
India launched the operation to avenge the killing of 26 civilians, mostly tourists, killed by militants in the Baisaran grasslands near Pahalgam on April 22.
