NSE F and O Ban List for Wednesday December 11

Akanksha - December 11, 2024 08:25 AM

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has placed five stocks under the Futures and Options (F&O) ban list for Wednesday, December 11, as they exceeded 95% of the market-wide position limit (MWPL). Despite the ban, trading in these stocks will remain active in the cash segment. The F&O ban list is updated daily to ensure market stability and curb excessive speculative activity.

F&O Ban List Today

The stocks under the NSE’s F&O ban list on December 11 include:

  • Granules India
  • Manappuram Finance
  • Metropolis Healthcare
  • PVR Inox
  • RBL Bank

The National Stock Exchange stated that these securities breached 95% of the MWPL, triggering the ban period. In this phase, traders are restricted from opening new positions in derivative contracts. Only offsetting or reducing existing positions is allowed. Failure to comply may result in penalties or disciplinary action as per NSE regulations.

Why Do Stocks Enter the F&O Ban List?

Stocks enter the F&O ban when the open interest in their derivative contracts surpasses 95% of the MWPL. The ban is implemented to prevent excessive speculation and maintain market discipline. Traders must adhere to the directive by either closing or offsetting their positions to bring the open interest below the threshold.

Market Performance on December 10

On the previous trading day, benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty exhibited a mixed performance, closing almost flat amid high volatility. Select heavyweight stocks saw bouts of buying and profit booking:

  • The BSE Sensex closed at 81,510.05, up marginally by 1.59 points.
  • The index hit an intraday high of 81,726.34 and a low of 81,182.69 before recovering losses in the pre-close session.
  • The NSE Nifty dropped 8.95 points, settling at 24,610.04, marking its third consecutive day of decline.
  • Smallcap and midcap indices saw minor gains, climbing 0.33% and 0.30%, respectively.

The NSE’s move to place Metropolis Healthcare, RBL Bank, and other stocks in the F&O ban list highlights the importance of monitoring open interest levels and adhering to MWPL norms. While trading restrictions exist in the derivatives market, investors can still trade these stocks in the cash segment. As volatility persists, market participants are advised to trade cautiously and focus on disciplined risk management.
