The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Wednesday, July 24, ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony that Nita Mukesh Ambani, a well-known Indian philanthropist and the founder of the Reliance Foundation, has been unanimously re-elected as the IOC from India at the 142nd IOC session currently taking place in Paris. She received 100% of the vote.

Mrs. Nita M. Ambani remarked, 'I am deeply honoured to be re-elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee," following her reelection. I want to express my gratitude to President Bach and all of my IOC colleagues for their belief in me. This reelection signifies not just a personal achievement but also India's increasing prominence in international sports. I'm happy and proud for all Indians, and I'm looking forward to working with you to build the Olympic Movement both here at home and abroad.'

Nita Ambani was initially invited to join the esteemed organisation during the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. Since then, Nita Ambani has not only championed India's Olympic vision and athletic aspirations but also achieved remarkable strides for the IOC as the country's first female member. This includes organising the first IOC session in Mumbai in more than 40 years in October 2023, which was praised for presenting the world with a new, aspirational India.

In her capacity as the Reliance Foundation's founder and chair, Nita Ambani works to provide resources and opportunities to millions of Indians. She oversees several programs in the areas of sport, education, health, art, and culture that are all focused on enhancing the lives of people throughout the nation. Since its founding, the Reliance Foundation has reached over 22.9 million children and youth in India through its grassroots to elite sports programs, positioning it as a leader in the country's sports growth. The organization's main goal is to promote a range of sports throughout India, especially in isolated areas where it is difficult to get equipment and activities.

The first-ever India House at the Paris Olympics 2024 will open this summer as part of the Reliance Foundation's long-term engagement with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). Athletes may use India House as a 'home away from home,' a location to celebrate victories and tell the world about India's Olympic adventure. It shows India's aspirations to become a major player in international sports, encouraging improved performance in the Olympics and setting the stage for future Games hosting.
