Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading car manufacturer, has issued an important recall affecting over 39,000 units of its popular SUV, the Grand Vitara. The recall targets vehicles manufactured between December 9, 2024, and April 29, 2025. The issue? A faulty fuel level indicator and warning light within the speedometer assembly.

This defect may misrepresent the actual amount of fuel in the tank, potentially leading drivers to believe they have more fuel than they actually do. While the issue does not directly pose a safety hazard, inaccurate fuel readings can lead to vehicle stalling and inconvenience, especially during long drives or in remote locations.

How Maruti Is Addressing the Recall?

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has begun reaching out to all affected Grand Vitara owners. If your vehicle falls within the specified manufacturing dates, expect a notification soon. Affected customers are required to take their SUV to an authorised Maruti Suzuki service centre. There, technicians will inspect the speedometer assembly for the faulty part. If found defective, it will be replaced free of cost, ensuring a hassle-free experience.

Price Range of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

The Grand Vitara, a premium SUV that sits above the Brezza in the company’s lineup, is priced between ₹10.77 lakh and ₹19.72 lakh (ex-showroom). It offers a solid value proposition in the competitive mid-size SUV space.

Key Specifications

Developed in collaboration with Toyota, the Grand Vitara is available with two engine options:

1.5-litre Naturally Aspirated Petrol

This Maruti-sourced engine generates 101.5 bhp and 137 Nm of torque. Available with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox, it comes with Maruti’s renowned AllGrip all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, a great choice for those who love SUV versatility.

1.5-litre Atkinson Cycle Hybrid (M15A)

Co-developed with Toyota, this engine packs a 90 bhp output paired with an electric motor producing 79 bhp and 141 Nm of torque. Combined, it delivers a total of 109 bhp and is mated to an eCVT automatic transmission. This version is more responsive and offers better fuel efficiency due to its hybrid technology.

Fuel Efficiency

The Grand Vitara stands tall when it comes to mileage, especially in the hybrid variant. Here’s what Maruti claims:

  • Hybrid version: 27.97 kmpl
  • Manual (1.5 NA): 21.11 kmpl
  • Automatic (1.5 NA): 20.58 kmpl
  • AllGrip AWD: 19.20 kmpl

These figures make it one of the most fuel-efficient SUVs in its class.

Should You Be Worried?

If your vehicle is included in the recall list, there's no need to panic. Maruti Suzuki has a robust recall system and will fix the issue at no cost. This proactive approach underscores the brand’s commitment to customer safety and satisfaction.

For current and prospective Grand Vitara buyers, this recall highlights that even popular and well-built vehicles can experience occasional hiccups. But with Maruti’s swift response, the SUV maintains its strong market presence.
