The accused has been identified as Pratim Bora, a former partner of Phukan, who created a fake profile and posted AI-generated photos to defame the influencer.
A man has been arrested in Assam's Dibrugarh for allegedly creating a fake social media profile and morphing pictures of Archita Phukan, popularly known as 'Babydoll Archie'.
The accused, named Pratim Bora, was arrested on Saturday. He was a former partner of Phukan who allegedly uploaded objectionable pictures of Archita Phukan to defame and harass the woman, Hindustan Times reported, citing the police.
The Assamese model and influencer recently hit the headlines after a photo of him with American adult film star Kendra Lust surfaced online, making him one of the most talked about names on the internet.
However, Phukan said that his photos with Kendra Lust were morphed and shared by a fake account. He also said that his friends and acquaintances came across these photos after they were widely circulated on social media.
After Phukan's brother filed a complaint, Bora, a resident of Tinsukia, was arrested from his house. It was soon revealed that Bora had been operating this fake profile for several weeks.
Police said Bora had gone into hiding to avoid punishment for his actions, but officers traced his phone through IP address data and technical evidence and arrested him. His phone and laptop were seized and sent for forensic examination.
Bora later admitted to taking and editing photos from Phukan's old social media posts. According to the report, he allegedly created the fake account out of emotional frustration after his relationship with the influencer ended.
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and the police have said they may also add sections of the IT Act relating to cyber fraud, defamation, identity manipulation, obscenity and invasion of privacy against the accused. Bora is currently in police custody and will be produced in court.
