Russia's state-owned nuclear company Rosatom is leading this project. This first nuclear power plant to be built on the moon will generate half a megawatt of electricity and this electricity will be sent to the base built on the moon.
The plant will be built by 2036
According to Russia's state news agency TASS, Rosatom chief Alexei Likhachev said that the international community as well as China and India have shown great interest in the project. Russia's space agency Roscosmos has announced that work is underway to build a nuclear power plant on the moon. Russia and China are working together on this. It will be installed on the moon by 2036.
This plant is special for India
Russia's first nuclear plant to be built on the moon is also special for India. India plans to send humans to the moon by 2040. In such a situation, this plant can meet the energy needs there. In 2021, Russia and China jointly announced the construction of an international lunar research station.
This station can start anytime between 2035 and 2045. The purpose of this station is to do scientific research. Most countries will be able to use it. But it is possible that some of America's allies may not get its benefits. In such a situation, being an ally of Russia, India can take advantage of it. Let us tell you that India has also set a target of building a base on the moon by 2050.
