LPG Crisis: Government Launches Major Crackdown Against Gas Black Marketing in Bihar

There is no shortage of LPG in Bihar; nevertheless, profiteers and hoarders are actively engaging in illegal profiteering. In response, the government has launched a major crackdown. The Police Department is conducting continuous and comprehensive campaigns across all districts. Recently, taking serious cognizance of the matter, DGP Vinay Kumar issued orders for investigations in every district. The situation is also being monitored at the Police Headquarters level.

In light of this, and pursuant to enforcement actions carried out over the past few days, 14 FIRs have been registered across a dozen districts. 419 LPG cylinders have been seized. Furthermore, approximately 21 individuals involved in black marketing have been identified, and action is being initiated against them.

Highest Seizure in Araria: 261 Cylinders Confiscated-

According to data released on Wednesday (March 18, 2026), cases have been registered at various police stations across different districts. The highest seizure—261 LPG gas cylinders—was carried out in Forbesganj, Araria. Two accused individuals have been arrested in connection with this incident. Subsequently, an FIR was registered at the Nagar Police Station in Saharsa, where 112 cylinders were seized and one individual was named as an accused.

Two FIRs Registered in Hariharnath, Saran-

Turning to other districts, six cylinders were seized and two individuals were arrested within the jurisdiction of the Shivhar Police Station in Shivhar. At the Singheshwar Asthan Police Station in Madhepura, one accused individual was apprehended with an LPG cylinder; at the Lakho Police Station in Begusarai, another accused was arrested with 11 LPG cylinders; and in Hariharnath, Saran, two separate FIRs have been registered (in one instance, three cylinders were found in the possession of an accused, and in the other, a single cylinder was found with an accused).

Furthermore, within Saran itself, two accused individuals were arrested with three cylinders at the Nagar Police Station—while in Muzaffarpur, one accused was apprehended with seven LPG cylinders at the Mithanpura Police Station, and in Motihari, another accused was arrested with four gas cylinders at the Chhatauni Police Station. Separate FIRs regarding the hoarding of gas cylinders have also been registered at the Muffasil Police Station in Siwan and the Sahayak Police Station in the Katihar district. Similar arrests have taken place elsewhere as well, and raids to curb gas hoarding are continuing across other districts.
