In January 2025, a train accident took place near Jalgaon, claiming 13 lives. The accident was possibly involving the Pushpak Express. The incident emphasises the need to upgrade railway safety systems and strengthen maintenance protocols.

9. Prayag Maha Kumbh Mela stampede 2025

On 29 January 2025, a stampede occurred during the Maha Kumbh Mela held at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers in Prayagraj. According to official figures, 30 people died and 60 were injured in the incident, although some sources have put the death toll as high as 79. This was the sixth stampede during the Kumbh Mela in the last 70 years. 2. Air India Flight 171 2025

On 12 June 2025, Air India Flight 171 crashed into a hostel of B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad soon after takeoff. It was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members. The accident killed 241 people on board, of whom only one passenger survived. In addition, at least 38 people on the ground also died and more than 60 were injured, making it one of the deadliest aviation disasters in history.
