Stock Market Holiday Today: Will the stock market be open or closed on Christmas? Banks and schools are closed on Christmas, so people want to know if the stock market will also be closed or if the BSE and NSE will operate as usual?

Is the stock market open or closed today? Are the BSE and NSE open or closed today on Christmas Day?

Today is Christmas, and the Indian stock markets are closed on December 25, 2025, due to the holiday. This is the last holiday of the year when the stock markets will remain closed for trading. According to the holiday calendar released by the stock exchanges, both the BSE and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed for the entire day and will reopen on Friday, December 26, 2025. Trading in the Indian rupee will also be suspended for the entire day.

This holiday comes at a time when domestic benchmarks closed with marginal losses amid a lack of fresh triggers and a cautious sentiment. On Wednesday, December 24, the Sensex and Nifty 50 closed in the red, with some large-cap stocks like Reliance Industries and ICICI Bank witnessing profit-booking pressure, while global cues were mixed.

Will MCX also be closed?

According to the stock market holiday calendar, there will be only one stock market holiday in December, the last month of the year. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), however, will be closed for the morning session but will be open for trading during the evening session. The evening session at MCX begins at 5 PM.

According to the 2025 stock market holiday calendar released earlier this year, Indian exchanges had planned a total of 14 trading holidays. According to the 2026 holiday calendar, the Indian stock market will next be closed on January 26, 2026, due to Republic Day.

The stock market closed lower on December 24. The Sensex fell 116 points, or 0.14%, to close at 85408.70, while the Nifty 50 declined 35 points, or 0.13%, to 26142.10. Broader markets also witnessed pressure. The BSE Midcap index closed 0.37% lower, and the Smallcap index fell 0.14%.
