Is Ashneer Grover Show Rise and Fall a Copy of Bigg Boss 7?

When it comes to Indian reality TV, Bigg Boss has long been the reigning king, delivering daily doses of drama, emotional breakdowns, and shocking twists. Now, Ashneer Grover, the former Shark Tank India judge known for his sharp tongue and business mindset, is stepping into this territory with Rise & Fall, a show that promises power struggles, greed, and survival. But after watching the first few episodes, one question keeps popping up: Can this high-stakes game truly compete with the emotional chaos of Bigg Boss?

For those familiar with Bigg Boss 7’s Heaven and Hell twist, Rise & Fall’s format might feel eerily familiar. There, too, contestants were divided into comfort zones, battling envy and deprivation. But Rise & Fall ups the ante with Rulers vs Workers, a raw power dynamic where money, influence, and strategy define who wins.

The Rulers get a lavish penthouse and a whopping Rs 38 lakhs at their disposal. Every day is a luxury-filled playground for them. Meanwhile, the Workers are thrown into harsh living conditions, with no resources and little support. Their only path upward? Compete, strategise, and dethrone the elite.

It’s a game of control vs survival, but is it enough to keep audiences engaged?

Drama, But Different

Where Bigg Boss relies heavily on interpersonal clashes, friendships, romances, betrayals, Rise & Fall keeps its focus sharp: ambition and strategy. Workers must outwit and outperform Rulers to stand a chance at power. Every task is a chess match where alliances form and crumble.

The contestant list adds to the appeal; names like Kiku Sharda, Pawan Singh, Arjun Bijlani, Sangeeta Phogat, and Noorin Sha bring a mix of entertainment, grit, and popularity to the table. But unlike Bigg Boss, there’s little room for personal bonding or heartbreak; this is strictly a competition-driven experience.

The Host Factor

Salman Khan’s presence on Bigg Boss has always been a key factor in the show’s success. His blend of authority, empathy, and humour makes him the audience’s anchor. Rise & Fall, however, makes a bold departure. Ashneer Grover isn’t a mentor or a mediator; he’s a detached overseer. He doesn’t console, entertain, or emotionally invest. His role is more about observing the rise and fall of contestants without interference.

This stripped-down approach gives the show a unique edge, but it also takes away the emotional depth that viewers expect.

What Works

  • A structured game format that rewards strategy and planning
  • Luxurious setups contrasting with brutal living conditions
  • A celebrity lineup that adds entertainment value
  • Fresh tasks that keep the competition intense

What Doesn’t

  • Lacks emotional connection and relatability
  • Predictability due to limited eliminations among Workers
  • The absence of a charismatic host who can engage the audience
  • Early episodes feel slow despite occasional confrontations

Rise & Fall offers a fresh twist on the reality show format. It’s sleek, calculated, and built around power play rather than emotional manipulation. However, it falls short in delivering the heartwarming, cringe-worthy, or tear-jerking moments that make Bigg Boss a phenomenon.

If you’re a fan of strategy-heavy shows with controlled environments, Rise & Fall is worth a watch. But for those chasing emotional drama, heartbreaks, and unpredictable relationships, Bigg Boss remains unmatched.

In the end, Ashneer’s experiment is an exciting attempt to redefine reality TV, but it’s unlikely to dethrone Salman Khan’s empire anytime soon.
