iOS 26 Public Beta: When is Apple new update coming?
Apple's next big software update iOS 26 is now ready for public testing. According to reports, Apple may release a public beta version of it around July 23, 2025. It was first announced at the WWDC event earlier this year and has since gone through several developer testing phases.
This beta version will give general users a chance to experience the new features and interface, that too before the final launch. The permanent version of iOS 26 is likely to launch in September with the iPhone 17 series. Users who want to try it out can join the Apple Beta Software Program for free. But before installing it, it is important to back up the device as the beta version is likely to contain bugs.
Which devices will get iOS 26?
The iOS 26 update is ending support for some older iPhone models. iPhone XR and iPhone XS will no longer get this update. However, this update will support iPhone 11 and later models like iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation). If you want to use the new AI features of Apple Intelligence, then you will need one of the devices from iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 series.
After the beta release, users can register by visiting Apple's beta website and then enable beta updates by going to the Settings of their iPhone.
What's new in iOS 26?
The biggest change in iOS 26 is its liquid glass design which gives the entire UI a modern and intuitive look. App icons have been redesigned, animations have become smoother and new customization options have been given in the home and lock screen. Apps like Camera, Safari and Photos have been updated to a user-friendly layout. This is considered to be the biggest visual change since iOS 7.
With iOS 26, Apple's built-in AI engine Apple Intelligence will now do even more. It will now provide real-time audio and text translation, smart suggestions based on the content you see on the screen, and useful information with ChatGPT integration. Users will now be able to create their own custom emojis with Genmoji and create fun images in Image Playground. New AI-based shortcuts are also included that work based on how you use your phone.
The Phone app now shows Recents, Favourites and Voicemails in one place. Apart from this, features like Call Screening and Hold Assist will make calling even better. The Messages app now includes new features like custom background, option to add polls in chat and typing indicator in group chat. Messages from unknown senders will now go to a separate folder.
Updates for gaming and CarPlay too
Apple has also added a new Apple Games app in iOS 26 which will make it easier to find and manage games. At the same time, features like Pinned Conversations, Widgets support, and Compact Call View will now be available in CarPlay.
