Who Was Guru Nanak Dev Ji?
Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in 1469 at Nankana Sahib (now in Pakistan). His father’s name was Mehta Kalu Chand and his mother’s name was Mata Tripta. From childhood, he showed deep faith in God and cared for everyone equally.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji traveled to many places to share his message of peace, equality, and truth. He taught that there is only one God and everyone is equal in His eyes.

How Guru Nanak Jayanti Is Celebrated
The celebrations start with Prabhat Pheris - early morning processions from Gurudwaras with devotional songs. Before the main day, Akhand Path (a 48-hour reading of the Guru Granth Sahib) is held.
On the eve of the festival, Nagarkirtan processions are organized with the Panj Pyare (Five Beloved Ones) leading. People sing hymns and display Sikh martial arts.
On Guru Nanak Jayanti, devotees visit Gurudwaras, pray, listen to kirtans, and join langars (community meals). Everyone, regardless of religion or background, is welcome.
