Recently, during the IndiGo Airlines crisis, many passengers complained that airlines were charging unreasonably high fares. In response, the government has taken strict action and set maximum airfare for domestic flights, effective from 6th December 2025.
Now, airlines cannot charge more than the set fares based on the distance of travel. This step aims to ensure affordable and fair air travel for passengers.

After the new rules, airlines started reducing their fares, giving relief to passengers. The government says this move will not only help passengers but also increase competition among airlines and ensure transparency.
This rule applies only to domestic flights. International flights will follow separate regulations. Airlines must provide a valid reason if fares increase due to special circumstances.
With this step, domestic air travel is becoming more affordable and transparent, benefiting passengers and the aviation sector alike.
