Worshipping Lord Ganesha with proper rituals and observing a fast on the Chaturthi Tithi (fourth lunar day) is considered highly auspicious. This day is believed to be very beneficial for happiness, good fortune, success, and the blessing of children.

The Vinayaka Chaturthi of the Magha month is special because it is celebrated as Ganesha Jayanti (Lord Ganesha's birthday). Magha Shukla Ganesha Jayanti is primarily celebrated in Maharashtra and the coastal regions of Konkan. In other parts of India, the Chaturthi falling in the Bhadrapada month is celebrated as Ganesh Chaturthi. This year, Magha Vinayaka Chaturthi falls on January 22, 2026.

According to scriptures, Ganesh Jayanti is the day when Lord Ganesha manifested from the paste applied by Goddess Parvati. This festival symbolizes knowledge, wisdom, and success, bringing positivity and progress into life. It is believed that worshipping Lord Ganesha on Ganesh Jayanti removes all obstacles and fulfills desires. This day is also considered very auspicious for starting new ventures.

Magha Vinayaka Chaturthi Puja Procedure:

  • After waking up in the morning and taking a bath, clean the puja area and sprinkle it with Ganges water.
  • Now, dress Lord Ganesha in new clothes and light a lamp in the temple.
  • Apply vermilion to Lord Ganesha's forehead and offer flowers.
  • After this, offer 21 knots of Durva grass to Lord Ganesha.
  • Offer laddoos or modaks made with ghee as prasad (offering) to Lord Ganesha.
  • After the puja is complete, perform the aarti and ask for forgiveness for any mistakes made during the puja.
