The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is considered very important in Hinduism. According to the Panchang, it is celebrated every year starting from the Chaturthi date of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month till Anant Chaturdashi. In these 10 days, Lord Ganesha is established and worship is organized.

This year Ganesh Utsav or Ganesh Chaturthi is starting from Wednesday 27 August 2025. On this day, the idol of Lord Ganesha will be installed in places like temple, home and puja pandal etc. and after 10 days Bappa will be lovingly bid farewell. In this way, Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated with pomp for the entire 10 days. But the first day is very special, because on this day Bappa arrives. So know which works should be done on the first day of Ganesh Chaturthi and which works should be avoided.


What to do before Ganesh Chaturthi

27th August will be the first day of Ganesh Chaturthi. On this day, clean and decorate the place of worship. After this, install the idol of Bappa as per the rituals and auspicious time. The time from 11:05 am to 1:40 pm will be auspicious for Ganesh installation.

Take a resolution before installing the idol or statue of Ganesh ji. You can install the idol of the god for one day, one and a half days, three days, five days, seven days or 10 days. The resolution for the number of days for which you install the idol in the house should be taken on the first day itself and after this the Ganpati should be immersed. Along with Ganesh installation on the first day, Kalash installation is also necessary. Install the Kalash near the idol of Ganesh ji. Fill the Kalash with Gangajal and put mango leaves, betel nut, coin, akshat, kumkum etc. on it and place a coconut on top.


What not to do on the first day of Ganesh Chaturthi

  • Chandra Darshan: It is believed that one should not do Chandra Darshan on Ganesh Chaturthi. A person who sees the moon on this day can be falsely accused or falsely accused.
  • Stay away from negative things: Bappa arrives on the holy day of Ganesh Chaturthi. Therefore, stay away from debate and fights on this day. Also, do not talk negative things.
  • Do not offer Tulsi: While installing Ganesh ji, do not offer Tulsi to him even by mistake. According to the scriptures, offering Tulsi to Lord Ganesha is prohibited.
  • Do not leave Bappa idol alone: After installing Lord Ganesha, the idol should not be left alone.
