T20 World Cup 2024: England's fast bowler Chris Jordan performed brilliantly in the Super Eight stage match against America, taking three wickets in three balls and taking a hat-trick. With the help of the strong performance of the bowlers led by Jordan, England bowled out America for 115 runs in 18.5 overs. Jordan has become the first England bowler to complete a hat-trick in the T20 format. Before him, no England player has been able to achieve this feat.
This is the third time a bowler has taken a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup 2024: This is the third time a bowler has taken a hat-trick in this World Cup. Before Jordan, Australia's fast bowler Pat Cummins was the only bowler to take a hat-trick in this World Cup. Cummins completed hat-tricks against Bangladesh and then Afghanistan in the Super Eight stage. With this, Cummins created history. He has become the first bowler in the world to take two hat-tricks in the T20 World Cup.
England won the toss and invited America to bat, but America's batting was not good. Captain Jos Buttler sent Jordan to bowl the 19th over. Interestingly, Jordan was given a place in the playing-11 in place of Mark Wood for this match and he took full advantage of it. Jordan got Corey Anderson caught by Harry Brook on the first ball. The next ball was a dot ball, while on the third ball Jordan bowled Ali Khan. On the fourth ball, Nosaathush Kenjige, who came as a new batsman, was out LBW and then on the next ball he completed his hat-trick by bowling out Saurabh Netravalkar.
Jordan not only completed a hat-trick in this match, but he also took four wickets in five balls in his over. After Ireland's Curtis Camper, Jordan has become the second bowler in the world to take four wickets in an over in the T20 World Cup. Camper took four wickets in an over against the Netherlands in 2021 and now Jordan has also done this feat. Interestingly, Jordan did not give three batsmen a chance to open their account. Ali, Kenjige and Netravalkar returned to the pavilion without opening their account.
The US lost their sixth wicket for 115 runs, but after that the team could not add a single run and lost the next five wickets without scoring any runs. This is the third time in T20 when a team has lost its five wickets for the same score. Earlier, Pakistan did this against Australia in 2010 and Kenya against Mali in 2022.
