Dhananjay Munde resigned: Maharashtra government minister Dhananjay Munde has resigned from his post. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also accepted his resignation. Munde, who was handling the Food and Civil Supplies Ministry, has left the post on the instructions of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The opposition was continuously demanding his resignation after one of his close aides was arrested in connection with the murder of a sarpanch in Beed district in December.
The information about Dhananjay Munde's resignation was given by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis himself while talking to the media. Fadnavis said, 'Maharashtra Minister Dhananjay Munde has submitted his resignation today. I have accepted the resignation and sent it to the Governor for further action.'
According to sources, Fadnavis' letter came after a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in which the political ramifications of the chargesheet in the sarpanch's murder case and the facts that emerged in the investigation into Karad's alleged role were discussed.
According to information, Fadnavis had asked him to resign due to the arrest of a close aide of Minister Dhananjay Munde in the Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh murder case. Sources said that Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar met Fadnavis on Monday night to discuss the results of the chargesheet filed by the CID in the Deshmukh murder case and two related cases in which Karad has been made accused number one.
Munde, the state's food and civil supplies minister, is an NCP MLA from Parli in Beed district. Earlier, he was the guardian minister of Beed. Currently, NCP chief Ajit Pawar is the guardian minister of Pune as well as Beed district. Deshmukh, the sarpanch of Masajog village in Beed, was abducted, tortured and killed on December 9 last year when he allegedly tried to prevent an extortion attempt targeting a power company in the district.
The State Crime Investigation Department (CID) on February 27 filed an over 1,200-page chargesheet in a Beed district court in the murder of Deshmukh and two related cases.
Three separate cases have been registered at Kej police station in Beed. Murder of sarpanch, attempt to extort money from Avada company and attack on the security guard of the firm. Police have invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the accused in these cases. So far, seven people have been arrested and booked under MCOCA. One accused is still absconding.
