What is the film about?

Dhadak 2 is the 2nd part of the Dhadak series. The first film came out in 2018 and launched Janhvi Kapoor. This time, the movie is based on the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal. It shows serious issues like caste differences, language problems, and discrimination in colleges.

The story is about Nilesh (played by Siddhant Chaturvedi), a poor boy from a lower caste who dreams of becoming a lawyer. He gets admission to a top law college in Bhopal through reservation. He meets an upper-caste lady named Vidhi (Tripti Dimri) there, who aids him and eventually develops feelings for him.

But their love story faces problems. Vidhi’s cousin Ronnie (Saad Bilgrami) doesn’t like their friendship. He and his friends insult and attack Nilesh. Later, Ronnie even hires a man to kill Nilesh. The film shows Nilesh’s fight—whether he gives up or stands strong.

What's good and what's not?

The film tries to talk about important topics. It starts with a strong quote from US President Thomas Jefferson: "When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty." But the first half is slow and feels too long. Additionally, the love narrative lacks feeling and strength.

Even though the story happens in a law college, the students don’t talk much about the law or their rights. Some characters, like Shankar and Shekhar, are not explained properly. Also, in today’s time when social media is powerful, it’s strange that no one talks about the injustice Nilesh faces.

The film ends on a happy note, but it does not feel natural. There are some funny moments, like when a character jokes about Kejriwal not wanting to join politics. The editing could be better. The film feels too long. The music is okay but not memorable.

How are the performances?

Siddhant Chaturvedi is very good as Nilesh. He shows the pain and hope of his character well. Tripti Dimri also acts nicely. Zakir Hussain and Vipin Sharma do well in small roles. Saad Bilgrami is convincing as the negative character. Priyank Tiwari tries his best with a weak role.

Final Verdict

Dhadak 2 talks about big problems in our society, but it doesn’t touch your heart. The story has good intentions, but the film feels slow and flat. It had the chance to be powerful but ends up being just okay.
